Tough Holidays

I’ll always have childhood memories about holidays that I can’t get out of my head. Thanksgiving was always one that I had a hard time with.

When I was 9, I remember being so excited to watch football with my family and eat turkey so fast so we didn’t miss any of the games. I woke up that morning and my mom was preparing the turkey the same way she did every year that I could remember. My dad and mom fought all the time, I was hoping it would pass so we could just pretend to be a normal family for that day. Instead, they kept fighting, my dad grabbed the turkey and through it out the door, then said “We have nothing to be thankful for this year..”

That was the last Thanksgiving that I even remember with my family.

Most years I work on Thanksgiving, and just try to distract myself from the Holiday. The past few years I decided to start making my own traditions.

This year I bought a turkey and gave it to somebody in need of it. The look on his face made me realize that every year and also every day We have something to be thankful for.

This year I will be spending Thanksgiving with my extended family and cooking my first turkey with my boyfriend the next day.

Life is so good, and I am so thankful!
