Connection

About the Project

The CT Support Group is an online project developed by young people in Connecticut to provide connection, peer-led support, and community for their peers. Our platform is an inclusive, trauma-informed space that prioritizes consent, choice, and mutual respect for young people to share their experiences and build a supportive community.

Project Goals

Connect CT’s young people to resources through our website map and Discord server, to peer support offerings, and to social events.

Increase access to peer support for young folks in CT through an online clearinghouse of opportunities as well as direct peer support hours.

Create a safe space for young people throughout CT to build community with each other and foster belonging and connection.

Project History

The CT Support Group, formerly known as TurningPointCT, was created in 2013 in response to the need for young adult specific mental health resources in Connecticut. The first young adult advisory board for the project conducted research and made recommendations to the Department of Mental Health and Addiction services that ultimately resulted in the creation of a website. This site included personal stories from young people, several resources, a forum, and educational videos. After ten years of the project, a team of young adults conducted focus groups and administered surveys to understand how the needs of Connecticut’s young people had shifted or changed. Using the data collected, the project added a Discord server for sharing resources, direct peer support, and to build a community.

Funders

This project is supported by funding from CT Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services Young Adult Services Division and the Westport Young Women’s League.
