I’ve written before about how I’ve joined some social groups on the MeetUp app. A few weeks ago, I went to the first event of a new group for young adults in their twenties. Most groups I’ve seen are either for older adults, or for people both in their twenties AND thirties, but never any for people solely in their twenties.
After my social anxiety had me flip flopping on whether or not I was going to go, I managed to get out there. It would have been a missed opportunity due to the previously mentioned age limitations. Plus, after it was over, I was so glad I went.
There were about thirty people who signed up to go on the MeetUp app, but only eight people, myself included, attended. This was much more preferable. If there were a lot more people, I don’t think I would have enjoyed myself as much as I did (because, you know, my social anxiety lol).
We met at a market in the Hartford area and engaged in very meaningful conversations. We all expressed the need for more social groups for young people in their twenties since many of us experience a gap in socialization after college. I learned a lot about everyone: their jobs, what they studied or are studying in school, their interests, hobbies, and more. It seemed like we all had so many similar interests which made our conversations flow smoothly and organically.
At the end, we made a group chat and threw around some ideas for future events for the group. I am definitely looking forward to hanging out with them again. It was so needed after I’d been feeling a huge wave of loneliness for several days. ~T
