Being who you are is worth celebrating!

Pride Month is a time to celebrate identity, authenticity, and the strength it takes to show up as yourself. For many LGBTQ+ young people, Pride is about joy, connection, and community. This journey can look different for others, sometimes bringing up emotional feelings too.

As an ally, I believe Pride should be about making space for LGBTQ+ voices, celebrating identity, and showing care in real ways. It’s about listening more than speaking, learning instead of assuming, and supporting people exactly as they are.  Pride brings joy, connection, and belonging, it can feel like finally being seen and accepted for who you truly are. But it can also bring up harder feelings, and that matters too! When there is validation , curiosity and inclusion, this can help to ease anxiety, reduce loneliness and help peers to feel comfortable in their identity.

Turning to resources and staying open to learning

Connecticut has a number of Pride resources that can help people find support, connection, and community. Organizations like Triangle Community Center and The Health Collective offer spaces where LGBTQ+ people can feel more supported and less alone. And more resources like The Reflection Zone, PFLAG Hartford, and the JoinRiseBe Warmline can also be helpful for people looking for connection, support, or someone to talk to.

We want young people to know they deserve respect, kindness, and spaces where they can just be themselves without fear of judgment. Pride is about more than celebration. It is also about care, healing, and remembering that no one should have to go through things alone. We can always turn to those who are open to being a support during the discovery of self-identification.

This month, we celebrate LGBTQ+ identities and the support systems that help people stay strong. Your story matters. Your feelings matter. And you deserve spaces that make room for both your pride and your healing. You are not alone, and there are people and organizations ready to support you.
