April is Stress Awareness Month

April is Stress Awareness Month, and honestly, it couldn’t come at a better time. Life often feels like a juggling act. Work deadlines, family responsibilities, finances, relationships. Somewhere in all the chaos, taking care of ourselves slips to the bottom of the list.

We all experience stress differently. Some power through it until exhaustion hits, while others shut down completely. The truth is, stress is part of being human, but when it builds up, it affects everything, our sleep, mood, focus, and even health. Recognizing early signs like irritability, restlessness, or that constant “on edge” feeling can help us pause before we burn out.

How can I manage the everyday stress?

This month is the perfect reminder to slow down and check in with yourself. What’s been weighing on your shoulders lately? What helps you feel lighter? For me, it’s playing The Sims, getting lost in Pokémon on my Nintendo Switch, or unwinding with some painting and some breathwork ideally somewhere outside. Maybe your version of peace looks different: listening to music, talking with a trusted friend, going to a peer support group, or journaling for a few quiet minutes each night.

Remember, you don’t have to do it all alone. It’s okay to set boundaries, take breaks, and ask for help. Self-care doesn’t have to be grand; small, intentional acts add up.

As we move through April, let’s make space for kindness, toward ourselves and others. We all deserve a little more calm in our busy lives. Sometimes, that peace begins with a single mindful breath.
