TurningPointCT is now CT Support Group

TurningPointCT is now CT Support Group! Allow us to reintroduce ourselves.

Who We Are

CT Support Group is Connecticut’s online peer-led support community, by young people for young people. Our goal is to provide an inclusive, trauma-informed space that prioritizes consent, choice, and mutual respect where young people can connect, share experiences, and build a supportive community. To meet this goal, we created a Discord server where young people can access direct peer support, connect with one another, and share their creative endeavors.

History of the Project

The project was first developed 10 years ago by young folks in Connecticut with the goal of creating a platform to share mental health resources with their peers. As the project grew, it evolved into TurningPointCT with the tagline “guiding the search for mental wellness”. The website served as a resource hub and encouraged young people across the state to share their stories and creative expressions. Don’t worry, that’s not going away! In 2024, we conducted a needs assessment with young people around the state to learn about what they wanted and needed from an online mental health support platform. Many of the responses mentioned Discord, and we spent the next several months creating our own server.

Peer Support – What is it? How do I get it?

So much of our project centers peer support, but what is that, exactly?

Peer support is a relationship in which folks come together around shared experiences. It is non-hierarchical, non-clinical, and focuses on the relationship as a partnership that invites both participants and peer supporters to learn and grow together, rather than as one person trying to “help” another. Peer support is about conversation, giving and taking, and looking deeper at how we’ve come to know what we know about the world and the ways we operate in it. It is voluntary and self-directed, which means participants define their goals and make decisions about moving towards these goals.
